A Community of women

A Community of women

          A Community of Women

Often times when we are in our teens and early twenties there if often a competition among women in terms of relationships, how one looks, accomplishments, etc.  We can often be our own worst enemies, instead of our best allies.  What is lost during this time is the power of what women can do and be for one another.  This is especially true in times of loss and pain when women can be there for one another in a way that provides both understanding and support.  I think it is of value to look back and see how perhaps we have been in caught up and internalized the cultural influences and messages to compete with other women. As though there is a winner.  There is not.  Sometimes, it is not until we have lived a bit longer that we begin to realize the strength and value of relationships with women. This is such a gift.  I have had for a number of years the most amazing relationships with women I call friends.  I know we are there for one another during all sorts of time, both joyful and sorrowful. During times of hurt and loss.  Little else can be as sustaining as a woman who is a friend.
